4/23 I recently called the senior center to learn more about helping my elder neighbor. What I learned is that they have some pretty terrific programs for seniors, most free of charge.
They do have daily lunches on site, meals on wheels, and weekly bingo for either a small donation or set amount (you'll have to call about details or check their website).
They also have free activities such as a live band for dancing or just listening with friends, senior exercise class, and cards. It's also just a great place for seniors to just hang out with friends and have a cup of coffee.
They have a food pantry available to all in need as well as a small library for book sharing. I'm pretty sure anyone can go to any of these things I've mentioned.
I also found out they have a class for caregivers to seniors -- also free of charge.
This is the place to call if you might need help with your heating bill since they handle that too (Community Connections). I think you could also learn about getting free rides for seniors to and from and also about the free bus all around town for anyone.
All in all, I think this is a wonderful community resource and I encourage all to contact them for more information. Also please consider donating to the food bank, the library, or something you might think of on your own.
Everyone I've ever met there are are pretty terrific people! You won't be disappointed!
