Michaels Furniture
We had a desk and dresser delivered. When purchasing these products the sales person told me I would have them delivered in two weeks. It would be “white glove” treatment. Unboxed and take away all the debris from the packaging and placed right where we want it. Three weeks later the items were delivered. The two men who came didn’t believe the dresser would make it up the stairs. There was a very long exchange about it not fitting but we continued to ask them to try. Finally, they tried and it fit. They were frustrated and complained about how heavy it was. Once they left, I went to check on the dresser and two drawers will not open. They are locked shut due to a broken mechanism. When I called, I spoke to the sales person who sold me the dresser. I explained that it took them a long time because they refused to measure and wouldn’t try to get it upstairs and that they complained about moving furniture when they are furniture movers. I told him about the drawers. He said, “Mexicans don’t want to work hard and they are lazy. It can be hard to find anyone else who will work so that is who we have”. I said, “What did you just say to me?” He said that “Mexicans just don’t want to do the work” and I said that I called to complain about the dresser and the people who delivered it and now “I have to defend the entire Mexican culture? Do you really believe that all Mexican people are lazy and do not want to work? Who cleans your house and serves you your food? What food do you eat?” He then said he didn’t say that. And said, “Latinos…” I stopped him and asked him to “not talk to me anymore about his ideas about Mexican people and to discuss the dresser only-“and take a class”. He then tried recovering but we moved on. The drawers are broken and it will be another week until they have a new one to deliver. But he stated that there is no such thing as “white glove” delivery from them and he never said that, “only Wayfair does that”. (They SO do not). Then, after a bit he agreed to comp the delivery charge but no discount on the dresser. “Ma’am, this is furniture not apples and peaches! We can’t give a discount on anything!” A bit more back and forth before we hung up. Apples and peaches can be discounted because of the brown labor that picks them for our country? Is that the implication? You promise one thing and (literally) delivered another. This is my fourth purchase at Michael’s and, sadly, my last.
